| SEVERN (7) SHIPBUILDERS UK. New Steel Skerry Schooner Yachts built to Order. Introduction This Yacht has been developed from the lines of the vessel ‘Elgen’ a Norwegian Skerry boat built in 1769. The design incorporates the aesthetic lines and rig arrangement of the original, whilst introducing accommodation in keeping with the expectations of the modern cruising yachtsman. To this end the molded depth and beam have been increased which, together with an increase in displacement, have allowed a spacious accommodation to be incorporated and allows auxiliary propulsion to be incorporated. In keeping with modern expectations of sailing capabilities the hull form has been ‘massaged’ to give improved windward performance and the size of the rig increased in line with the hull ‘stiffness’, displacement and wetted surface area. The design brief included the ability to take the ground, enter the European canal system and operate as a Blue Water Cruising yacht.
